Farewell and thank you

After five years of service as Director of Catholic Education in Tasmania, Dr Trish Hindmarsh was formally farewelled on 16 September.  Over 120 special guests, Principals and Tasmanian Catholic Education Office staff gathered for a Thanksgiving Mass concelebrated by Archbishop Julian and priests from across the Archdiocese.  Schools and colleges were well represented with their banners adorning St John’s Church in Glenorchy.  Students from Dominic College greeted guests and the Mount Carmel College choir led the music beautifully.  During the Mass the Archbishop emphasised the role Dr Hindmarsh's faith had on her service within Catholic education for over 40 years: 'Teaching has been your profession, the Gospel has been your life... and you have brought all this to your role as Director of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese.'

Mass was followed by an intimate cocktail function at Guilford Young College.  Guests were entertained with music provided by students from St Virgil's College and refreshments and food were served by Guilford Young College hospitality students.

Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission Chair Mr Greg McNamara and St James Catholic College Principal Mrs Anne Foale both spoke of Dr Hindmarsh's dedication to her role and how fortunate our system of schools and colleges have been for her balanced guidance over the past five years. In response, Dr Hindmarsh reminded those present of the mission of Catholic education, 'Catholic Education will always be a great gift to this state and to this country and I pray that it will continue to thrive and be authentic to Christ and to His dream expressed in that pivotal proclamation of Christ that underpins all our official documents, I have come that they may have life and have it to the full'.

Dr Hindmarsh paid special tribute to her family for their support over the length of her career, and to all those who have contributed to Catholic education in Tasmania, ' God bless and reward each of you'.
